One picture that helps
A sales pitch is a menu. Your address is the kitchen. If the kitchen isn’t built yet, the menu doesn’t matter.
Before you sign anything
- Check your exact address on the provider’s own availability tool (Kinetic, MetroNet, Spectrum, T-Mobile Home Internet — whichever is pitching). “Nicholasville has fiber” is not the same as “your house on this street is ready.”
- Ask: is the drop already at my house, or is this a waitlist / build later? Get that in writing or email.
- Ask: what’s the real monthly price after the promo? And for how many months? Equipment rental? Early-exit fee?
- Ask: do I keep my phone numbers / email, and who cancels the old service? Mis-timed cancel = a week with no internet.
- Compare to the bill you already pay — same day, on your couch, not while they wait on the steps.
Kentucky’s broadband map can help you see what’s listed for your area: broadband.ky.gov — still verify with the provider for your address.
Traps
- “Your whole neighborhood is live” without an address check.
- Signing same-day to “lock the rate” before you’ve read the after-promo price.
- Canceling Spectrum (or whoever) before the new line is installed and working.
- Door-to-door pressure — same rule as the Wi-Fi guide: paper, street build status, your time.
Done means
You know whether your address is actually ready, what you’ll pay after the promo, and who cancels what — before you sign.
