You’ve got the basics from the plain AI guides: What AI actually is, When AI sounds sure and is wrong, AI providers and what “frontier” means, and AI and scams. Now try one tool once.
Before you start
Use a free account you’re okay with. Don’t paste passwords, bank info, full Social Security numbers, or private family details.
A simple hour
- Open one chat tool (whatever you already have is fine).
- Ask it to explain something ordinary in plain English — a bill fee, a phone setting, a recipe step.
- Ask it to rewrite your own short draft (a note to a neighbor, a yard-sale post).
- Ask one follow-up: “Make that shorter” or “Use simpler words.”
- Check any fact you’d act on before you trust it.
Done when
You finish one practice chat, kept your secrets out of it, and know where to go next (Ask Steve if you’re stuck).
