One rule
Real Jessamine deputies do not call you to collect money for a warrant or a missed court date. The Sheriff’s Office has said that out loud. Hang up.
What to do instead
- Hang up. Don’t stay on “just to hear them out.”
- Don’t go to a Bitcoin machine, grocery kiosk, or gift-card aisle.
- Call the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office yourself at a number you look up — not the number on the call. Main office: jessaminesheriff.org / Admin (859) 885-4139. Or walk into 201 N Main St, Nicholasville.
- If you already paid or gave info, tell your bank and the Sheriff’s Office the same day.
Traps (what the scam says)
- “I’m Deputy ___ collecting for a warrant / missed jury duty.”
- “Pay at a Federal Kiosk / Bitcoin machine or we arrest you today.”
- “There’s a gag order — don’t tell your family or your bank.”
- Caller ID that looks like the Sheriff or Nicholasville Police. That can be faked.
Nicholasville Police and Jessamine County Sheriff have both warned about these calls. Local alerts match the same pattern: hang up, don’t pay, verify on your own.
Done means
You know deputies don’t collect money by phone, you hung up, and you know how to check with the real office if you’re still unsure.
